Stop the 24-hour sewer-line callback before it pages the dispatcher.
Your tech rolls up on a recurring back-up, pulls static PSI 48 on a 60-line, scopes the lateral past the curb and finds root intrusion at the 31-foot joint. The assistant returns ranked causes — cable from cleanout to main, scope past 30 ft, root intrusion — before the tech unloads the truck.
> STATIC PSI ............ 48 / 60 (HI) > ΔP (CLEANOUT @ MAIN) 6.2 inH₂O > SCOPE FOOTAGE ........ 42 ft > ROOT INTRUSION ....... JOINT @ 31ft > FAULT ................ LATERAL CHOKE

From the bench
The four calls we’re getting this week.
Anonymised cases from the bench tape. Numbers and operators illustrated; copy lifts typical plumbing faults so you can picture where the diagnostic lands on your own tickets.

Symptom: No hot water on a 9-year-old tankless.
> FLOW SENSOR Ω ........ 2.4 / 4.0 (LOW) > INLET TEMP ........... 9 °C (LOW) > ERROR CODE ........... E11 > IGNITION TRIES ....... 3 / 5
Ranked causes
- 01FLOW SENSOR SCALING68%
- 02INLET TEMP TOO LOW22%
- 03GAS VALVE DRIFT10%
Bench move: pull the flow sensor and clean with white-vinegar soak. Confirm inlet temp under 12 °C before clearing E11 — the unit will keep throwing the code until the sensor returns in spec.

Symptom: Sewer-line back-up two days running, 30-year clay lateral.
> STATIC PSI ........... 48 / 60 (HI) > CLEANOUT ΔP .......... 6.2 inH₂O > SCOPE FOOTAGE ....... 42 ft > ROOT INTRUSION ....... JOINT @ 31ft
Ranked causes
- 01CLEANOUT CLEARING64%
- 02MAIN LINE ROOT INTRUSION28%
- 03VENT STACK CHOKE8%
Bench move: cable from the cleanout to the main, scope past 30 ft before clearing. A 30-year clay lateral will look clear at 25 ft and choke at the joint past the curb — don't declare on the first pull.
- SHOP CANONYMISED · ILLUSTRATIVE
Symptom: Slab-leak suspect on a PEX manifold.
> MANOMETER ............ HOLDING 0.5 PSI @ 15min > LOOP HOT-SIDE ......... 0.42 GPM (HI) > LOOP COLD-SIDE ....... 0.04 GPM > FLOOR TEMP (KITCHEN) .. 24.1 °C (Δ + 2.4)
Ranked causes
- 01HOT-SIDE LOOP LEAK71%
- 02MANIFOLD O-RING19%
- 03FITTING @ STUD-STRAP10%
Bench move: isolate loop-by-loop with the manifold ball-valves and re-pressurise the cold side. If the cold side holds 0.0 PSI for 15 min, the leak is on the hot-side loop — not the manifold.
- SHOP DANONYMISED · ILLUSTRATIVE
Symptom: PRV chatter, pressure bouncing 60→110 psi.
> STATIC PSI ........... 110 / 80 (HI) > EXPANSION TANK PSI .. 12 / 58 > PRV ................ CHATTER @ 1.2 Hz > THERMAL EXP ..... BLEEDING
Ranked causes
- 01FAILED EXPANSION TANK57%
- 02PRV SEAT WEAR31%
- 03CHECK-VALVE HUNT12%
Bench move: check the tank pre-charge against the static line PSI cold, not at the regulator seat. A waterlogged bladder will read back in spec at the PRV and chatter again on the next heat cycle.
How SecondShift fits
It lives where your plumbing dispatch already is.
The diagnostic assistant surfaces inside the FSM your trucks already run on. No new app to open, no new login for the tech — same ticket, same notes panel, with the bench tape injected in the right place per vendor.
- ServiceTitanSURFACES HERE
Inside the Job Notes panel on the dispatch card
Runs as a side panel below the tech’s voice note. Ranked causes and the bench verdict land inline with the customer-history block so the dispatcher sees the static PSI and ΔP alongside the call notes.
- Housecall ProSURFACES HERE
On the custom fields of the dispatch card
Three custom fields get populated per ticket: ranked cause #1, parts list, bench verdict. The tech never opens another window on a slab-leak call.
- JobberSURFACES HERE
In the visit-notes tile on the job detail view
Pins as the bottom tile on the job — above the customer’s signature line and below the photos so the dispatcher sees the sewer-line scope footage first thing Monday morning.
- FieldEdgeSURFACES HERE
On the work-order form, just below the symptom dropdown
Renders the ranked causes under the existing service-type selector. The tech’s existing checklist stays exactly where it is.
- Dynamics 365 Field ServiceSURFACES HERE
On the booking timeline, as a custom control activity
Attaches to the work order as a custom control activity so the existing Power Automate rules can route it onward without rebuilding dispatch logic.
Pick the FSM your trucks run on. Send the setup brief.
Four fields, an owner reads every one. Tool-tape + bench-verdict config for the plumbing line starts the day we agree to scope — booked as a single $997 setup engagement.
// Pre-tag the setup brief
Pick the dispatch platform your trucks already run on, then send the setup brief. The intake lands on the desk already pre-tagged with vertical=plumbing and your FSM — no replay needed.
Current field-service platform
// $997 setup engagement
$997 books the bench for one day: tool tape config for the plumbing line, ranked-cause calibration against your first ten tickets, and the FSM seam where your dispatchers read it on Monday.
